Inspired: All my favourite design moments from our honeymoon
HONEYMOON DESIGN MOMENTS
“I’ve always find travelling anywhere outside of where you live is such an invaluable source of inspiration as a designer, and our honeymoon was no exception.”
Things have been a little (read: a lot) quiet over here on the blog lately – it’s been a huge start to the year, with a wedding and incredible honeymoon now in the past and already becoming distant memories.
Last month, we were lucky enough to jet off to the other side of the world to celebrate our honeymoon, escaping the harsh Canberra winter and making the trek to London and the Greek islands for three weeks.
I’ve always found travelling anywhere outside of where you live is such an invaluable source of inspiration as a designer, and our honeymoon was no exception.
From gorgeous hotel rooms, to stunning restaurants and bars, historic architecture, and everything in between – discover some of my favourite design moments from our trip below!
Hotels
As a designer, it was only fitting that I sought out hotels for our honeymoon that were going to fill us with joy to stay in.
We were lucky enough to enjoy some gorgeous rooms for our stay, each with their own distinct vibe that made the trip even more special. Each of them was fantastic for both room and hotel amenity, and location in each place we stayed.
Restaurants & Bars
Getting out and experiencing new dining opportunities is one of our favourite parts about travelling. We love discovering new food and wine at home, so when we’re abroad it’s like Christmas!
We were blessed to experience some incredible restaurants on our trip – the highlight for me had to be Dinner by Heston Blumenthal on our very last night.
But aside from being a trip to heaven for our tastebuds, these venues were also rich sources of design inspiration. From the stunning outdoor furniture in restaurants in Paros and Santorini, to the eccentric fit-outs in London, this was where some of my favourite design moments sprung from.
Architecture & Streets
If there’s one thing I love doing when abroad, it’s walking the streets of foreign cities. Moving through them like a local and taking everything in.
Among one of the world’s oldest cities, London doesn’t disappoint in this area. Walking through its streets, every building feels as intentional as it does unintentional. From historic centuries-old buildings to vintage awnings, there’s no shortage of inspiration here as a designer.
In stark contrast, the Greek islands divulge an even deeper history with a completely different vibe. The classic white and blue-topped buildings can be seen around almost every corner, intermingled with modern twists.
Both cities take on their own versions of ‘old meets new’, something I wish I was surrounded by more here at home. And something I’ll always take in whenever I’m in places like these.
summary
Designer or not, if you’re ever lucky enough to travel away from home – whether it’s to a town a few hours away or to the other side of the world – take the opportunity to get inspired by everything around you.
I’ll be drooling over this inspo and taking it with me into my work for many years to come!
