Custom-designed invitations are beautiful, but they’re not always where your wedding budget needs to go. And from someone who’s been there before, it is possible to get that high-end custom feel for less.”

Weddings have a way of adding up quickly – trust me, I KNOW. I got married in early 2025, and the only part of our day I’m very glad to have in the rear-view is the budget.

Between the venue, food and drinks, flowers (granted it helps when your original florist doesn’t go out of business and you have to pay twice…), THE DRESS, and everything in between, it’s easy for the smaller details – like invitations and stationery – to start feeling like a luxury rather than a necessity.

Custom-designed invitations are beautiful, but they’re not always where your budget needs to go. And from someone who’s been there before, it is possible to get that high-end custom feel for less – you just need to know where to look!

Luckily, that’s not very far. After designing my own wedding stationery and signage last year, I wanted to share and expand on those designs to help other brides who wanted to do the same.

The “in-between” option brides are loving

If you’re a DIY bride who still wants your wedding to feel thoughtful, custom and elevated, professionally designed invitation templates are the perfect middle ground.

Rather than starting from scratch (or settling for something super generic), you can work with a design that’s already been thoughtfully created with to fit within your chosen theme and aesthetic – all you have to do is enter your day’s details. It gives you that polished, custom feel, without the custom price tag.

Designed to feel like you

One of the biggest misconceptions about templates is that they’ll feel cookie-cutter. But I’m here to tell you, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

It’s all about finding the style that matches your wedding’s theme and overall aesthetic. Whether that be modern minimal, funky for spring, elevated black tie, coastal mediterranean or vintage cottage-core – there’s a template design that will feel like it was made just for you day.

Easy to customise (no design skills needed)

All of my invitation templates are created in the free version of Canva, which means you can jump in and make edits yourself without the need for complicated software, design experience OR a credit card.

Once you’ve received the template link, you can easily:

  • Update your names, dates and event details

  • Adjust colours to better match your styling

  • Swap out fonts (if you’d like to personalise it further)

  • Add or remove details depending on your needs

  • Move or add elements

It’s designed to be simple, intuitive, and actually enjoyable to use – so you can focus on the fun parts of planning your wedding, not getting stuck trying to format text boxes and layouts.

A cohesive look across your entire day

Another benefit of starting with a professionally designed template is consistency. Your invitations often set the tone for your entire wedding, so having something that feels aligned with your overall aesthetic makes a huge difference.

Once you have this core piece of stationery locked in, you can easily carry it across into:

  • Save the dates

  • Details & RSVP cards

  • Menus

  • Gift tags

  • Signage

This creates a seamless visual experience from the moment your guests open their invitation, right through to the day itself.

Print it your way

Once you’ve customised your design, you can export your files directly from Canva and choose how you’d like to bring them to life.

If you’re wanting to touch and feel paper stocks and envelopes before committing to printing your whole order, you could find a local printer in your area.

Alternatively, you could do what I did and DIY your designs then have them printed through an online printer like Vistaprint.

They have a huge range of paper stocks, finishes and products to suit every budget and are a great way to carry through that luxe stationery feeling without blowing the budget.

I designed our invitations, RSVP cards, menus, welcome sign and gift tags myself, and had them all printed through Vistaprint on a luxe cotton cardstocks and corflute for less than $300 total.

At the end of the day, your wedding stationery should feel like an extension of your day, not a source of stress or a budget blowout.

Invitation templates give you the best of both worlds: professionally designed, thoughtfully created layouts, with the flexibility to make them your own across all of your desired stationery.

So if you’re a DIY bride looking to create something beautiful, personal and cohesive – without the custom price tag – this might just be your perfect solution.
