6 signs it’s time to rebrand your business
time to give you brand a glow up“Wherever you’re at in your journey, there are some telltale signs to look out for that signal your business has evolved – and it’s time that your branding did too.”
As your business grows from its humble beginnings (and I sure hope it does), it’s likely there will come a point in time – if that time hasn’t come already – where the logo and colours you threw together on day one, or the branding you had commissioned a decade ago, no longer represent the brand you’ve built and the business you’ve grown into.
Wherever you’re at in your journey, there are some telltale signs to look out for that signal your business has evolved – and it’s time that your branding did too.
So, what are the signs?
1. Your single logo isn't enough anymore
A LOT of businesses start out with just a single logo – and usually in one single format at that.
This usually works for a little while, but as your business grows, you'll probably find yourself using your brand in more places than you ever imagined – websites, social media, email signatures, signage, stickers, packaging, presentations, merchandise, and more.
You’ll quickly work out that a single logo simply isn’t designed to work everywhere – it’s too small to be shrunk down on stickers, too awkward to fix in certain screen ratios, not in vector format for large-scale print.
ARGHHHH!!!! I know.
This is usually the first sign that you need a rebrand… or just a brand in general.
A strategic brand identity includes a suite of logos and supporting assets that allow your business to look polished and consistent across every touchpoint and avoid all of these frustrations when it comes to applying your logo and brand to any medium.
2. Your visuals constantly feel inconsistent
Whether you have a single logo or some semblance of a brand identity in place, another sneaky sign that it might be time for a rebrand is when your visuals start to look a little too inconsistent.
If every Instagram post looks different, your website doesn't match your business cards, or you're constantly changing fonts, colours or graphic styles, your brand is likely lacking a clear and strategic visual system that speaks to what your business is all about on a deeper level.
Consistency builds recognition, professionalism and trust. Without it, your business can feel confusing – even if what you’re selling is exceptional.
3. You’re attracting the wrong clients… or none at all
For better or for worse: your branding communicates far more than your business name.
It influences how people perceive your quality, pricing, expertise and personality before they've even spoken to you.
If you're constantly attracting clients who aren't the right fit, or struggling to connect with your ideal audience, your branding may no longer be communicating the right message and it’s time to check yourself before you wreck yourself (with a rebrand).
4. Your business looks less established than it actually is
Perhaps you've spent years refining your products or services, building experience and delivering incredible results.
But if your branding still looks like it belongs to the business you started years ago, your potential audience may not see the level of exceptionalism you're providing today and be willing to meet you there.
Your brand should reflect the quality of your business today, and the value of what you’re selling – not keep you stuck where it all began.
5. You’re spending too much time making design decisions on the fly
This is one of the biggest signs I see – and I’ve even been guilty of it myself (not me taking 4 hours to design a carousel post for Instagram).
If every flyer, social media post or presentation starts with questions like:
“Which font should I use?”
“Is this the right blue?”
“What graphics match my style?”
“Does this even look like my brand?”
Or just makes you completely dread the thought of even creating anything for your business in the first place… it's probably because you don't have a clear brand system to guide those decisions – or if you do, it doesn’t match where your business is today.
Proper branding removes the guesswork, making marketing faster, easier and far more consistent (plus if you hire a designer like me, you’ll even get templates DFY so you don’t even have to worry about making them yourself!).
6. Your business has changed
Businesses evolve (this is actually a really good thing), and your branding has to evolve with it.
Maybe you've introduced new products or services, entered a different market, refined your niche, increased your prices, or shifted your overall direction.
If your branding still reflects the business you were several years ago, it's probably no longer telling the right story.
Which means? You guessed it: time for a rebrand!
Branding is more than just a logo and visuals (you can read more on that over here) – it should be a strategic identity that supports your business goals, speaks to the right audience, and gives your business room to continue growing.
It should also be an asset that removes unnecessary friction in your decision making and supports greater efficiency and confidence in the day-to-day running of your business.
So if a lightbulb has gone off in your head while reading about any of the frustrations above that come from having an outdated or misaligned brand, it might be time to seriously consider a rebrand that aligns your identity with the business you are today.
